In the bustling city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, there lived a street dog named Lucky and a little girl named Desta. Lucky was a scrawny, brown dog with matted fur and a sad expression in his eyes. Desta was a small, bright-eyed girl with a heart full of love.
One day, Desta was playing in the street when she saw Lucky. The dog was cowering in a corner, shivering from the cold. Desta felt sorry for him, so she took him home and gave him some food and water.
At first, Lucky was afraid of Desta, but she was patient with him. She would talk to him softly and pet him gently. Slowly but surely, Lucky began to trust Desta.
As the days went by, the bond between Desta and Lucky grew stronger. They would go for walks together in the park, and Desta would tell Lucky all about her day. Lucky would listen patiently, wagging his tail happily.
One day, Desta and Lucky were playing in the park when they saw a group of boys throwing rocks at a cat. Desta was horrified, and she ran over to stop them.
"Stop it!" she shouted. "That's mean!"
The boys laughed at Desta, but she didn't give up. She kept shouting at them until they finally stopped.
Desta was so proud of herself for standing up to the bullies. She knew that she couldn't have done it without Lucky. He had given her the courage to speak her mind.
Desta and Lucky continued to be best friends for many years. They were an unlikely pair, but they loved each other very much.
